This morning, I caved and had McDonalds breakfast with a big coke (and it tasted so good)! Now I need to decide if I'm resetting my goal or letting it die ;) I think I'll reset for another 40 days ;) Forgive me?

If you really really love McDonalds, you're setting yourself up for failure if you say you'll never have it. Why not set a goal like... once a month? Or whatever time frame you want. It's not the end of the world to have a little treat occasionally. Everything in moderation, especially moderation! ;)
Aw, it's ok to give in once in a while. I am trying not to drink as much Coke this year. And it's hard. But I've let myself have glass about once a week. I feel like I've been successful because I'm drink FAR less of the stuff :) sounds like you're having the same success with your goal!! Yay you!!
Those are good ideas, I'm going to change the goal and allow myself to have it once a month... I like the idea of the 9th each month :] I have definately MAJORLY cut back (before 2010, it was my goto/easy meal)...and now I've replaced it with better options :)
Oh Leigh-Ann...you are so cute! =) I find things are way too hard to cut out altogether (for me it's Mountain Dew) so I just allow myself to have it when I go out to eat. Makes it much easier then not having it at all =)
I have been following Eat To Live since Thanksgiving (lost 20 lbs. so far) and I went nuts and ate about 8 valentine's cookies today!! I am really well-behaved usually but sometimes you just need a blowout. It makes the determination to do better much stronger!
i always think it's realistic to cut things out completely especially if you love them. I see no problem in having McDonalds once every few weeks or even once a WEEK as long as it's not every day or multiple times a week! you're only human after all. :)I gave up ALL forms of soda for an entire year. It was really easy for me because i don't like it much in the first place, I just crave it sometimes and drink it unnecessarily.
Reset your goal. It's a good one. I challenged myself to this a year ago and haven't looked back since. I've crumbled a couple of times, but I always felt so awful after each McD's cheat that I knew I had to kick it for good.
The best thing that helped me was to avoid going to areas that had McD's. I usually went there because it was enroute somewhere (work, friends, home etc). By avoiding the routes that took me past an easily accessible McD's it significantly cut down on eating it, thinking about eating it etc. I can now drive past one and not thing, hmm, I could really go for a Big Mac today. Or, I'll just get fries, they aren't THAT bad for you.
I realize that may be a hard task as part of McD's mission is to be as accessible as possible and therefore they are on most major streets and hwy's in most towns, but do your best! :)
This may sound strange, but the other thing that helped me was to stop carrying cash. This has actually helped my eating out of home expenses go wayyy down. Knowing that if I eat out (McD's or other) that it will show up on a credit card statement or bank statement makes me avoid it. My husband and I keep each other accountable by reviewing credit card/bank statements each month and if either of us has eaten at a fast food restaurant we have to do extra cleaning duties around the house. It's gotten quite competitive!
hehehe...aren't goals meant to be broken, oh wait, maybe that's rules that are made to be broken! Now you know how long you can go! Perhaps the next goal should be for 41 days!
Mmmmm...I LOVE McDonalds! My advice would be to ask yourself what makes you happier - not eating Mc-Ds, or eating it. If the answer is "eating it," then limit yourself to once a month or once every other month. There's nothing wrong with a treat every once in awhile!
I am proud to say I haven't touched any fast food for well over a year. I know that anything I eat at home is much better for my heart health. You can do it Leigh-Ann! What I did was try to recreate my cravings at home...using good quality ingredients and thus controlling salt and sugar intake. MY big indulgence was always the fries! McD's never catered to my Vegetarian diet so fries were my weakness. Now I make baked fries from real cut potatoes or sweet potatoes and olive oil and a sprinkle of sea salt and make it a treat :) xx
Don't feel bad! I have set up some goals for myself this year, no Mcdonalds, no soda, and no sweets. But every two weeks I can pick one thing to have as a reward/special treat, this way I have something to look forward to and don't have it inbetween because I know I can have it at a certain point if I want. Great job though and keep going it will so be worth it in the long run. : )
I think you should limit yourself to one McDonald's trip a month. I'm trying to limit my sugar intake, so I'm allowing myself one super sugary indulgence a week. but I've found that I really don't crave it all that much any more.
It's been 40 days of 2010 already? Well, maybe you lasted much longer than you would have if you didn't make the resolution. Just pretend it never happened, haha.
Wow. I haven't had McDonalds in a looooong time. I used to eat it all the time, but then I read a book on how everything was made and I'm not a big fast food person any more. I think I've been McDonalds free for maybe...four or five years? Yeah. Crazy.
Haha We all cave in sometimes, I agree with Tams that everything in moderation is okay. I currently am on a diet for the New Year and I am dying for some fast food, so maybe ill indulge as long as I don't cave entirely!
40 days is an amazing effort. I agree with the first two comments.. if you forbid yourself something you are going to crave it even more. I would suggest simply allowing yourself to have it very much in moderation and rewarding yourself when you DONT have it, rather than feeling bad when you DO :)
ah man! I thought that was a great goal. i have done it this whole time with you. the only problem is i only like their cheeseburgers. but i have only had 1 fast food cheeseburger all year. doing good :) i think you can try for 80 days this time! I will be cheering you on with whatever you do!
My son went off of McDonalds..he lasted 2 years!!! I still can't believe a teenager would/could stay away from the big mac's! It had no influence of me though..lol
I just went a whole year without eating any fast food (although I don't count Starbucks or Timmie's as fast food). I actually went 367 days. I'm trying it again this year too. When you don't htink about it you don't crave it at all. And watching Supersize Me once in a while doesn't hurt either. :)
I had McD's last week. I treat myself to it every so often. If I'd make myself not allowed to have it, I think I would just think about it more, and want it all the time.... I love their breakfast too. ;)
Super powerful blog auto follow system?! OH BOY! *arches right eyebrow*
I think you've done great, Lala! I totally like the idea of doing it once a month, but you make sure that if it's your goal that you stick to the once a month! Maybe make a coupon booklet, one tag for each month, and make yourself redeem it when you get your monthly meal. Use some cute paper... you KNOW we love the cute paper. ;)
LOVE YOU and miss you so so so badly. -Maverick Vi
Reset and no bad thoughts should pass through your mind! You did great!!! A treat every now and then helps you to stay focused on your long-term goals---no McDonald's in 2010 is just too hard to stick with...maybe McDonald's only once a month? Good luck and yay to you!!!
You've lasted 31 + 11 days, that is a big achievement. For me, I had brunch at 2pm a quarter pounder value meal. My favourite is the fries - no one makes it like them.
I wouldn't waste my time with mcd bkfst. I LOVEEEEEEEEE the fries and cheeseburgers. Ugh.. just thinking about it makes me crave it. Must be the crack cocaine they put in those burgers.. mm... You made it WAAAaaaay longer than I could have. bravo.
i agree with resetting the goal with some tweaks :) moderation is the key!
BUT to play devils advocate, i would think you could find wayyy better breakfast food at your local joint. it feels so good to me to go to a locally run place and support them instead of big corporations. kind of like supporting handmade crafts, you know? ;)
man i do not know how you eat McDonalds! The food tastes like crap BUT if you need some help.. maybe the motivation could lie with the fact that McDonalds are probably one of the most unethical companies out there? If you support handmade and local businesses i would hope that you'd consider the ethics behind where you buy your food :) Theres nothing nicer than a fresh burger made at home with fresh mince meat. Now im hungry good luck with getting back on your wagon :)
It's okay hon. Hop back on the No McDs wagon and try again :)

ReplyDeleteI can't eat there- I used to love it, but 3 years ago things changed. xoxo
ReplyDeletei had mcdonalds today. i was so hungry and it was there. now i feel sick. yucky yucky.
ReplyDelete40 days is awesome! You could always go for another 40. That way you get a little treat every now and then. Good luck!

ReplyDeletei happen to LOVE McDonalds too. :)
and by saying i think it's realistic, i meant UNREALISTIC. oops. that made my whole comment make no sense. I meant UNREALISTIC. lol

You can do it :)

as long as you don´t eat meat... i think once a month won´t destroy you!
ReplyDeleteand in my opinion exceptional cases fulfill a balanced nutrition! :)

ReplyDeleteOops, just read up and noticed that you had come to the same conclusion! Okay, ignore my advice. :-p

I haven't had mcdonalds at all in 2010 {touch wood} I'm very proud of myself.
ReplyDeleteOh LA 40 is still fantastic! Don't think of it as caving, think of it as a reward.
ReplyDeleteEverything in moderation. I mean if you deprive yourself of what you love, it feels like a chore and makes you want it that much more.
Turn it into a reward, and you work harder to keep on track.
I have the same problem with Diet coke. It's my vice. Ive tried cutting it out for extended periods of time and it's not for me.
Now it's a treat, and I'm better off haha.
It's those dumb french fries that get me. McDonald's fries and a diet coke and I'm happy.

ReplyDeleteWow - weird - I had McD's today too.
ReplyDeleteI've been feeling guilty about it ever since.
I think you should limit yourself to one McDonald's trip a month. I'm trying to limit my sugar intake, so I'm allowing myself one super sugary indulgence a week. but I've found that I really don't crave it all that much any more.
