a high and a lo-la

Lo-La: This week has been so intense. Monday I took my 7 year old Lola to the vet for an extra appointment because I had a few concerns with no answers. As Dr.Newfield checked her over, he assessed that her tender & sensitive ears and the weird bald spot on her side was due to an allergy and his solution is already improving the situation till we figure out what she's allergic to. I giggled when he told me her blatter issues at night are due to menopause and a weekly pill will quickly fix that... and I renamed it menopaws! But my world stood-still when he told me the bump on her ear that I thought was a bug bite, is actually a tumor. Woah. He explained that if it's benign, it will resolve itself but that if it's malignant, he would need to remove her entire ear. I hardly held it together and he promised to give me results from the biopsy within 4 days. It's been on my mind all week and I've been super scared for her... but today her vet called and gave me GREAT NEWS!!! It's not the bad kind of tumor and it's going to go away by itself... my babies okay!! :)
(she loves tucking her head under the pillows and groaning in delight)

High: On the other side of things, this week I negotiated and signed two longterm contracts that are very exciting! I'm not quite ready to share details but will definitely divulge in early December :) It means big, great things and it was a life moment for me that gave me total giggles and goosebumps! Seriously so excited to tell you more very soon...with lots of pics and a dancing in excitement video! Eeeeek!

  1. I'm so glad your little Lola is okay!!! She reminds me of my pup, Wawa (he's lanky with a long snout too! :-). I would've just been beside myself waiting for those results.

And double yay for your two exciting contracts!

  2. What a relief that Lola is okay! My 9 year old retriever has a lump too and I've booked a vet appointment for Saturday to have it checked. I've been worried sick just thinking about what it could be! It really is such a stress when they are sick or unwell. Happy to hear it has all worked out with Lola and a big congrats on your newest contracts!

  11. I'm SO glad to hear Lola is okay! I was starting to tear up reading that story- reminded me of all the trouble we had with my childhood BT. She had diabetes which caused Cushions disease that made her so ill. Dogs are so strong, and she was hard headed to live another 2 years after being told she would die soon. They are so precious!

  12. I'm glad to hear her tumor is benign! We had to take my 5 year old lab in to the vet on Tuesday because he's been sick this past week and I noticed a lump on his chest/ribcage last week. Fortunately, it came back as a fatty tumor (benign!) and nothing more which was terrifying. She told us she would only call if there was an issue and my husband told me she called and my heart sank. Fortunately, she just called to let us know it was nothing but geez.

  16. Glad to hear that your baby is OK! I have a black lab mix too and shes always having allergy/skin issues...we've tried special foods, shots, everything but it always comes back...what did your vet suggest for the allergies?

  17. Hi Jenn, sorry to hear that your pup is going through that too. The allergy is mainly in her ears (and in the past, also around her eyes also). Monday, he sedated her and cleaned out her ears realllly well using a video scope into her ears... for 1.5 hours (she gets buildup because of the allergy) and he packed her ears with a thick antibiotic that stays put. She also got allergy pills and in two weeks, she'll get her ears repacked. If the allergy pills work, we'll know it's not a food related allergy (and if they don't, it's likely to be food related). Over time, I've seen many vets about this ear issue of hers and this is the first one who took such aggressive action (which I wanted all along b/c she's always uncomfortable). Maybe you should try a different vet or tell yours about Lola's success (she's already so much more comfortable and I see a big change).
Hope this helps :) xo, LA
