Product Test: Spin Pin

When I saw this commercial on tv last month, I searched high and low for a Spin Pin (by Goody). I've recommended it to all my friends with long hair and wanna show you too, it's super easy to use and works well :)
IMG_3073BTwist your hair so that it rotates into a 'bun' (no elastic needed).
The Spin Pins act like a corkscrew. They come in a 2 pack so I put one over the tail of my hair, and the other one across from it... not linking together. They twist in really easy :)

And you're done! It holds really well, it's fast to do and it's comfortable; doesn't pull or poke like bobbypins. They're available at Walmart and Target in the USA but I haven't seen them in Canada yet. Note: I'm just sharing this because I like it, I wasn't asked or paid to do it.

xoxo, Leigh-Ann

  1. I had those in high school! I think my mom might have gotten them in Germany. Anyway, I lost them, and I loved them! Where did you find them?

He he!I fell for the commercial too! I ended up finding them by all the hair doo-dads at Walgreens, which is a good thing since i hate waiting for the mail. i love mine too!not sure why i keep my hair so long, since it is almost always in a ponytail. remember the "pony clip" from the 80s? they were like this giant clip that mashed your hair together in a vertical waterfall of hair. we should totally bring those back! Now they would be all retro and stuff!

  11. Ah, that's pretty funky! I was actually just posting about trying to find cool things to do with my hair, I normally do it in a rockabilly sort of style, and this could be a cool, funky way of controlling the back when I can't be bothered to straighten it :)

  12. Oooh...thanks for posting this! I saw the commercial yesterday and was thinking about buying some. I was worried that it would be hard to get out though...any thoughts on that? Does it just pull right out or is it tricky?

  13. I have these, too. Unfortunately, my thin hair doesn't always like to cooperate so I still had to add some bobby pins to keep things in place. It was still way easier than elastic and bobby pins alone! Oh, it was really easy to take them out, too.

  14. Ooh thank goodness you posted this I have been wanting to try those out! I have REALLY thick Mexican-girl hair lol. I always have to use a billion bobby pins. I wonder if the other new styling products work just as well they look pretty cute!

  15. Oh, cool! I'm always shoving my hair back in a bun with an elastic, but they exasperate me. I'll have to keep my eye open for one of these!! :)

  19. I bought the Modern Updo pin thingy from Goody and am having trouble with it...haha! I don't think it is as complicated as I am making it but it doesn't seem to work for me. Maybe I will have to try the Spin Pins instead.

  21. I've been looking *everywhere* for one of these and I can't find them!

Question, do you have thick heavy hair? I have alot of hair and I'm afraid 2 won't cut it.

  22. Oh my gosh! I saw those on an infomercial and wanted to buy them so bad. Infomercials are way too convincing. haha

  23. i've ben wanting to get one of these too! i usually just use an elastic over my hair in a boring bun for work but it does the trick :) thanks for the review !

  24. CARRIE R, They reverse-twist out and it's really easy to get them out :)

LIZ, I was totally picturing you using these when I made this post... same with Jill, Danielle, Emjay :)

ROXANNE, I have regular hair but lots of it... I think they would work a bit better on me if my hair was about 2 inches longer. Brooke Ann commented above that she has thickthick hair so she uses 4 spin pins.

KUHLCY... lol, i had a teal one! My sister and I called them Banana clips ;)

Glad you guys enjoyed the review, thanks :)

BTW, they cost about 6 or 7 dollars.

  25. I have these too!! great for me because I have to wear my hair up at work. I searched high and low after a good friend showed them to me.. I must have gone to every target, walmart, walgreens & cvs only to find the empty spot on the shelf. I finally got some off the goody website... and while the shipping was a little outrageous, I guess it beats the time and gas money spent driving all over town!

  26. I searched high and low for these last week! Finally found them at Walgreens. They definitely do work, but since my hair isn't super long (just a bit past my shoulders), I still use a bobby pin or two (though that's better than the 20 I was using!). They're only about $5, too, so totally worth it.

  27. I keep seeing the commercial for those pins. Wondering how you get them out without your hair tangled up in it. Is it magic?
