Bows and Dresses, my little story

LA (Grade 1)
When I was a little girl, Momma loved dressing Amanda and I up in dresses with frilly socks, pink & purple and ribbon bows. But I wanted to wear clothes for building stick forts in the bushes, hoodies, boardshorts & a fitted workout top as my swimsuit and when I was 18, I shaved my head. I was the farthest thing from girly... girly really scared me! I grew up envious of and indimated by my sisters natural beauty ability & cuteness and often comparing my body with her tiny frame... all of which stunted me from discovering my own beauty & qualities (in turn, having no idea how to do my hair, apply makeup or wear clothes that showed a feminine body). On my wedding day, I got dressed up pretty for the first time by choice and it was a break-through. I don't talk about that day much because of its final outcome...but boy, did I feel beauti-full! It was incredible and really exciting! I wore my hair long, had my makeup done, special earrings, I took off my glasses that hid my big blue eyes and I had a waistline and cleavage! HA! this is SO our thing! Since that day 7 years ago, I made the decision to quit comparing myself to other girls and I've been more open to discovering Leigh-Ann as a real girl. I still don't wanna be all pink and princess, that's just not me... but it's been a fun and challenging journey to embrace my girl side by appearance, not just heart! I've been burning the candle at both ends lately so I took most of the day off yesterday & today and enjoyed a little shopping date with Keith, online inspiration hunting and still to do, housecleaning (much needed after I finish every big project... Keith calls it "The Pile Bomb"...lol) Here's some fun girly inspiration that I soaked in this morning :) Enjoy... 7. Aw, LA! I was such a tomboy as a kid! I grew up with 4 older brothers so I was pretty much destined to have a childhood filled with black eyes, skinned knees and my brothers [hand me down] michael jordan sneakers. :)

  8. leigh-ann, i dont know why you would want to compare yourself to others, but then again I think every female goes through that, I think you are beautiful the way you are inside and out

  14. Leigh-Ann, YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL! You and Amanda (yes, you too Kody) are both so BEAUTIFUL, both in your own ways, but then so much alike in the way you dress. But it isn't the way you dress that makes you beautiful Leigh-Ann, it's what's on the inside. You have such a kind heart. You were so beautiful on your wedding day and someday you will wear a beautiful wedding dress again and be just as beautiful looking. There will be a deeper meaning to the love you will share because you've grown so much.
Look at your grade 1 pic, you were just about ready to cry. You were so shy and timid, and look at the woman you've become. You are a strong minded but soft and gentle woman who knows what you want in life and will fight to get it. You have changed so much in the past 7 years, you've grown and matured. I love the woman you are.
I better stop, I'm starting to babble...

But, please don't shave your head again???

    I love you Leigh-Ann.

    Love Momma

  16. you are inspiring lady :)
i always feel either too dressed up, or too underdressed, i am working on feeling more comfortable with those things.
i always walk a fine line between too boyish, or too girlish, never a happy medium i feel like. so this year i am really working on that. your posts are helping me immensely!

  17. I love this post. I feel like I was much the same way until recent years; wearing "boy clothes" all the time, rather than dresses/skirts/etc. It's fun to mix it up, though, like you've said.

Before I post this, I must ask, where did you get your fantastic glasses? I love them! :)
