Button Trees
Keith and I made these together :] They're similar to the Mistletoe, but even prettier :]
How to Make:
1) You need a styrofoam cone (any size), straight pins(with balls), and lots of buttons :)
I used MOP buttons (Mother of Pearl); they're megamazing :)
2) Start at the bottom with a circle around the base and work your way up and around.
3) I used 2 colors of pins (white and teal) so that it wasn't too much teal :)
4) I layered over the gaps along the way; but you can also do it at the end.
5) Keith did his a different way. I'm not sure how to explain that way... but it turned out really cute and leafy looking :) Tom helped him :]
6) Once you've reached the top, layer a few buttons and vertically pin them into the top of your tree :]
A few tips:
- If your pins are long, make sure you don't poke them thru and stab yourself and have to go to the hospital. I told you so. As I got closer to the top, I tried to angle the pins downwards.
- I think I used about 400+ pins on the MOP one above... Stock up :]
- To get a tight tree, gently squeeze the tree once in a while along the way :]
- At the end, if styrofoam is showing at the bottom of your tree, turn it upside down and just kinda push the styrofoam edges towards the middle. It'll re-form like a schoolgirl :)
- These would make insane centerpieces at a wedding and a new weapon in the game of Clue.
Now you're done!
And if you're like me, you wanna make a Forest of Button Trees!
