i love old.

Keith and I drove through the our city today, enjoying the buildings, vintage signage (love that!), and sunny snow-melting weather :) He inspired me to look up how Winnipeg used to look and I found this awesome site of old Winnipeg postcards :) * Then thru google, I found Winnipeg Photographer, Bryan Scott :) This is my fave set :) And here's his blog which I plan to read completely, Winnipeg: love & hate. * (above) These are my two *favorite* Winnipeg buildings :) The Confederation Building on the left and the Royal Bank of Canada (nee. Union Bank) on the right and below :) I drive over this bridge everyday but it looks totally different now: Portage Avenue (I like these people and the dark clarity of this photo): Main Street (rad cars...i spot 2 wagons :) This is 3 blocks away from where I live :) Transcona: Portage & Main (check out the cars!): Eaton's: September 1955 Bus Pass: Winnipeg Post Office (I love the street signs on the very left...and the bus windows): Main Street: i donno what this is...but i sure like it :) * Here's two of my winnipeg pictures, Hudsons Bay and Art Space * I hope Winnipeg has this again... I wish I would have gone to it last year. * Happy Saturday Everyone! ...Look up and enjoy the beauty around you :)

  3. Ha! The orbit garbage disposals. They were the 'in' thing in the '60s along the highway, with the tought that you could just slow down, drive up to them, and dump your garbage without getting out of the car. The post-card is just making a jab at someone taking it from you!

  4. Hi Leigh-Ann AND Keith,
Your friend is right about the orbit, they were garbage cans along the highway. We used to try and create garbage(Paper bags, candy wrappers) in the car when we were little just to get grandpa to stop at them. Didn't work too often. The beaches golf course out at the lake used to have one along the highway LA to look like a golf ball, it may even still be there. The car that is stopped at the orbit is the same kind that g&g had except a blue STATION WAGON, with a seat facing backwards, with a large power window on the tailgate that you could have down while driving and a button by the back door that we could open and close the window ourselves. Really the back facing seat was quite a death trap, you would go flying out the back if you had a bad accident. We used to hide under that seat(it folded down) and the 2nd row seat and sneak into the drive in, saved at least 2 admissions. This is the car that A. Sandy and I had to drive when we were teenagers, I was the driver though. What a blast, wish we could have it back....
The open house of old buildings happens every year, there was one during this past winter, g&g go every year.

MEMORIES, I remember alot of these pics, not the model T's though, NOT THAT OLD!!!

    Love Momma

  6. I remember those garbage "bugs" as we used to call them. However I don't think they were called orbit. They used to be on the highway (when I was a kid) on the way to the lake. They were normally overflowing, ALOT! I have seen some pics of "old" winnipeg downtown. I love them too, I love the street cars....San Fransisco (sp?) still has street cars no? I'll have to visit before I die.... :P
